Accessibility
MerchantHQ is built for busy UK business owners who want quick, plain-English answers about card machines, payment fees and providers, often on a phone.
Our aim
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. We are not perfect, and we keep finding and fixing issues.
Features to help you
- Skip to main content. A skip link is the first thing you reach when you press Tab, so you can jump past the menu.
- Site search. The labelled search box in the header takes you to our search page, which searches the pages on this site.
- Site index. The site index lists every section of the site in one place.
- Plain-English glossary. The glossary explains card-payment terms such as acquirer, interchange and chargeback.
- Keyboard and screen readers. The site works with a keyboard, and pages use clear headings, labelled form fields and page landmarks.
Colours
We do not use colour alone to show whether something is good or bad; tables and labels say it in words too. We do not offer a second colour scheme. If you need different colours or more contrast, your browser zoom and your device's contrast and colour-filter settings work on this site.
Making reading easier
- Zoom. Use your browser zoom (Ctrl and + on Windows, Cmd and + on a Mac, or pinch on a phone) to make text bigger.
- Read aloud. Your device or browser can read pages to you, for example VoiceOver, TalkBack, Narrator or your browser's Read aloud feature.
- Site index. If menus are hard to use, the site index gives you every section as a plain list of links.
Known limitations
- Wide tables. Some fee and comparison tables are wider than a phone screen and scroll sideways.
- Calculators. Our calculators and the fees calculator need JavaScript to work.
- Videos. Some pages include YouTube videos. The player is run by YouTube, so we cannot control its controls or captions.
- PDFs. A small number of downloads, such as our handbook and our ICO certificate, are PDFs and may not work as well with assistive technology as web pages do.
Report a problem
If anything on this site is hard to read or use, please tell us through our contact page. It helps if you include the page address, what went wrong, and the device, browser or assistive technology you were using.
If the site or the enquiry process is hard to use because of your health, a disability or your circumstances, see if you need extra help in our trust centre.
